Music! Live @ the Library

If you stop by the library around two o’clock on the third Sunday of most months, you hear a joyful noise. The live music program started in 2008 under the direction of Rosa Garcia, the Children’s Librarian. The performers typically begin at 2 PM and play until 4 PM in the library lobby, where chairs are set up for library patrons who are invited to come and go as they please. It’s not unusual to find all of the chairs on the first floor occupied, and more people in the comfortable seats on the ‘Bridge’ on the second floor, tapping their fingers and toes in time with the music. The Friends helped underwrite this program, which often brings residents into the library for the first time.

The November live music event will feature the soft, classical jazz of the Golden Years Combo from Sun City. “Golden Years” refers to both the period of life that the combo players are enjoying and the music that the six-person combo plays — the popular tunes from the ‘30s and ‘40s, the golden years of American music, as well as more recent favorites such as music from Hello, Dolly!
