Children's Summer Reading Programs

The primary purpose of the children’s summer reading programs is to encourage children to read, but a secondary purpose is to expose children to the library and for them to learn that libraries aren’t just about books. Donations from the Friends of the Library make possible weekly performances by singers and musicians, puppeteers, visual artists, magicians, naturalists, storytellers, and a variety of other children’s entertainers.  From the kick-off party to the finale celebration, the Georgetown Public Library is the place to be during the summer!

The 2010 children’s summer program kicked off with a performance by the well-known Austin musician, Sara Hickman, and her band. Audiences love Sara and everyone gets involved in the show.
