Where else will you find all these advantages? Second-Hand Prose is operated by the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library. In the fiscal year ending September 30, 2010 more than 31,000 items were sold in SHP. Staffed by more than 100 volunteers who work three hour shifts, the bookstore is our largest fund raising activity, allowing us to contribute nearly $50,000  in the fiscal year of October 2209 to September 2010 to the library to support unbudgeted projects and purchases. 

We rely on the library for some of our inventory, when they take books out of their collection to make room for new titles. The majority of the books, CD's and DVD's on our shelves, however, come to us as donations from the Georgetown community. (Click here for more information on how to contribute yours.) If you would like to volunteer at the bookstore you may contact folvolunteers@folgeorgetown.com. Second-Hand Prose is a fund raiser for the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library and membership in the "Friends" is required in order to work in the store. Store Hours

Volunteers work at the store from one hour after the Library opens until one hour prior to the Library closing, each day. For those two hours each day when we are not staffed, purchases may be paid for at the Reference Desk right outside the entrance to Second-Hand Prose. Store hours are 10 AM - 7 PM Monday through Thursday, 10 AM - 5 PM on Friday, 10 AM - 4 PM on Saturday, and 1 PM - 4 PM on Sunday.
