WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Fish City Grill Fundraiser
April 6th
Put Fish City Grill on your calendar on April 6th.
You’ll enjoy a wonderful lunch or dinner and
support THE FRIENDS OF THE GEORGETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY.
Fish
City Grill will be
donating 15% of their entire day’s sales to the Friends
on April 6, 2010.
The restaurant, located in Wolf Ranch shopping
center in Georgetown, is a favorite
for great seafood and friendly atmosphere.
Their fresh seafood blackboard always has
wonderful specials and the menu of favorite seafood
dishes is always well prepared.
Counting calories??
The menu at Fish City
includes many ‘diet friendly’ items, including broiled
fish, and delicious salads.
The Friends of the Library is a non-profit
organization dedicated to promoting the public use
and community support of the Library.
Proceeds from the event will be used to fund
unbudgeted projects at the library.
Last quarter’s $10,000 contribution to the
library funded the lease fee for the TERC database,
six new book carts, six barcode scanners, ten
folding tables and musical events.
Our most
recent $10,000 donation will be used to purchase the
first seventy downloadable audio books, more of the
Grammy award winning music CD’s, and other items the
Library needs.
Join us at Fish City Grill for delicious food
and added support for your library!
The restaurant’s hours are 11 AM until 10 PM.
HILL COUNTRY AUTHORS SERIES
Steve Harrigan
charmed his audience of more than 170 people at the
event held at the Georgetown Library on February 25th.
The author of ‘The Gates of
the Alamo’ and respected faculty member at UT’s James A.
Michener’s Writers Center, Harrigan described his
experiences as an author, screen writer and faculty
member.
He shared with the audience
that he writes books for himself and screen plays for
money, so he is satisfied with his efforts at the
completion of a book, before knowing if it will be a
best seller!
Harrigan was
introduced by Georgetown resident and former neighbor,
Mike Miller.
The event was coordinated
by FOL members Susan Novick and Ruth Newheiser.
The Red Poppy Café located
in the library catered delicious desserts for the
attendees.
The next event will be held in the Fall.
Details will be announced later.
FOL VOLUNTEER
APPRECIATION EVENT
The second annual Appreciation party
for the FOL volunteers held on February 10th
was a great success. The Board of Directors of the
Friends organization did a wonderful job of decorating
the tables with candy kisses, and serving a delicious
light lunch with a crab salad, lots of fresh fruit, meat
filled croissants, punch or wine and delectable cupcakes
for dessert.
Volunteer Coordinator Bev Sautter
congratulated the top 10 FOL volunteers from May to
December 2009.
Topping the list was Cyndi Crawford, who had
volunteered 185 hours.
Cyndi evaluates books and lists them on the
internet as part of our Online Sales team.
The Top Ten are:

For the second year Friends who work
25 hours or more on an annualized basis will have a
bookplate placed in a new children’s book, acknowledging
their contribution.
There are 111
people
who will have a new book dedicated to them,
honoring their hours of service to the library.
Eric Lashley, the Director of the
Georgetown Library described the contributions that the
FOL had made in recent years, including a portable
microphone, a Grammy CD collection, DVD’s and player,
and the
Community Room that is designated the Friends of the
Library room. The
Friends recent contribution to the library will be used
to acquire downloadable audio books for the ipod and MP3
player. He also
gave a history of the Georgetown Library from its
beginning to the present 3 year old facility.
The president of The Frineds, Judy
Apel, recognized
the board members and their various committees, and all
of the volunteers who attended.
There were many lucky winners of
great door prizes that had been donated by local
merchants.
Next time you’re visiting one of these companies, please
thank them for supporting the Friends of the Georgetown
