The Best Used Bookstore in Georgetown

Second-hand prose

About the Store

Second-Hand Prose (SHP) is a non-profit bookstore, operated and staffed by volunteers from the Friends of the Georgetown Public Library. We sell donated books, audio and video media.

Most books and materials may be purchased by making a donation of your choice. Our Collector’s Corner books are individually priced and may include first editions, author-signed or presentation copies, and books of unusual subject matter or specialized interest.

We also list many collectible and unusual books online in our eBay shop, shipping books all over the world.

Our book sales generate an average of $50,000 a year. All proceeds are used to sponsor programs that invite community participation and promote the library and to provide services, books, and equipment the library would otherwise be unable to afford.

We invite you to browse our bookstore every time you visit the library.  You never know what you will find on the shelves!

Book & Media Donations

We appreciate donations and accept books, CDs and DVDs, and just about anything that someone would read, listen to, play, put together, or treasure.

Items should be clean and in good condition. We cannot accept Reader’s Digest Condensed Books or anything that is or has been wet or moldy.

Bring items you wish to donate to Second-Hand Prose to the library’s first floor circulation desk. For larger donations consisting of several boxes, you may ask at the desk for a book cart. Very large donations may be taken to the library’s loading dock, but please call (512)930-3551 first to ask for that accommodation.
